A motorist narrowly missed going for a polar bear swim in the Bow River on Jan. 25 after her vehicle rolled down the hill at the Highway 22 and George Fox Trail intersection, stopping just shy of the water below.

At approximately 9 a.m., a 42-year-old female driver from High River – the lone occupant of the red, 2004 Chevrolet Aveo – proceeded through the intersection, heading north on Highway 22, when she lost control and left the road.

The vehicle struck a road sign after travelling through a barbed wire fence and came to a stop on the bike path below on the south bank of the river.

Along with RCMP, Cochrane firefighters and EMS responded to the scene.

The driver was treated for injuries at the scene before being transported to hospital for further observation. She has been charged under the Use of the Highway, Rules of the Road regulations.

Police determined that alcohol and road conditions were not factors in this incident.
