École Notre-Dame students raise funds for Brielle Thomson

This week, the school presented a $550 donation toward the purchase of a Trexo Robotics Exoskeleton, a device that could help Brielle gain mobility.

The story of little Brielle Thomson’s journey to walk has captured the hearts of the Cochrane community — and the students at École Notre-Dame Des Vallées (NDV) are among those stepping up to help.

This week, the school presented a $550 donation toward the purchase of a Trexo Robotics Exoskeleton, a device that could help Brielle gain mobility.

The idea began with a single student, Mason, who took it upon himself to start fundraising.

“There was one child, Mason, from our school who started to raise money one weekend by collecting garbage,” said Madmme Melissa Martel, Principal for NDV. “He brought this up to the rest of the school and we all joined him.”

Inspired by Brielle’s story, the students and staff quickly rallied to contribute. Funds were collected throughout the school and formally presented to Brielle during a visit to the school on Wednesday morning.

“Sometimes we help people who are out of the country, but being able to help someone here in our own home is even more heartwarming,” Martel said.

The school’s contribution is part of a growing number of community-led efforts to support Brielle’s fundraising campaign. From local tournaments to private donations, Cochrane continues to show up for one of its own — proving that small actions can make a big difference.
