Electronic music event, TreeZen, dances into its second year

The second TreeZen EDM (electronic dance music) festival will be happening again this year and will feature local talent. The event will take place Aug. 29 at Frank Wills Memorial Hall in Cochrane. It will begin at 7 p.m. and run until around 11 p.m.

The second TreeZen EDM (electronic dance music) festival will be happening again this year and will feature local talent.

The event will take place Aug. 29 at Frank Wills Memorial Hall in Cochrane. It will begin at 7 p.m. and run until around 11 p.m. with performances from several local DJs. There will be an after party held at the BullHorn Saloon with DJs as well.

Organizer Brandon Linkewich, who is also known as DJ White Light, said they decided to move the festival to an indoor location this year. Last year’s event was held outside the Cochrane Rodeo Grounds and Linkewich described it as a larger set up.

“It won’t be an outdoor festival, but it will still be really good because of the space,” he said, referring to the hall, adding that last year they had a really good turn out.

He said getting the outdoor permits was very difficult and it is a pretty loud event, so he thought it would be appropriate to have it indoors this year.

The festival will feature all local DJs playing EDM including Gregrrr, Phat Pat, Gnarcolepsy and BA DJs.

Linkewich, who will also be performing at the event, said that although Cochrane has a musical community that is mostly known for country, there is an appetite in town for EDM.

He said this festival would help bring awareness to all the local talent found in the Cochrane EDM scene.

Another important part of the festival for Linkewich is that it is all ages. He said that there are a lot of people who are not able to enjoy the music live because the shows are often held at bars. He also said there are even some local DJs who are too young to play shows in licensed venues.

“There are a lot of young people in our town who enjoy the young DJs who are performing,” he said. “If it wasn’t all ages, they wouldn’t be able to come or be able to play at an event because they are under age.”

The event is for all ages – no alcohol will be served at the Frank Wills venue.

The event is $20 and tickets can be purchased at the door only.
