Grade 12 students exempt from provincial exams

All Grade 9 Provincial exams have been cancelled and four schools are exempt from Grade 12 diploma exams following the flooding situation in Southern Alberta.

All Grade 9 Provincial exams have been cancelled and four schools are exempt from Grade 12 diploma exams following the flooding situation in Southern Alberta.

Rocky View Schools (RVS) acting superintendent of schools Susan Williams made the announcement June 23.

Students from Springbank Community High School, Cochrane High School, Bow Valley High School and the Cochrane campus of the RVS Community Learning Centre, were allowed to attend their home school for each exam as regularly scheduled. However, students who did not attend on the exam date will be automatically exempted from the exam and their final mark will be the teacher-awarded grade.

Students from the Cochrane and Springbank areas who cannot make the regular scheduled exam date have the option of applying to write a diploma at a later date.

However, students rewriting a diploma exam without retaking the course or mature students who are challenging a diploma exam are not eligible for exemptions and must write the diploma exam as scheduled or as approved for a later date.

Grade 10 and Grade 11 students from the high schools are able to write final exams as regularly scheduled. However, if the student cannot attend the exam they will also be automatically exempt and will receive a final grade based on the teacher-awarded mark.
