It’s official: Hockey Quest 500 has set the Guinness World Record for the most players in an exhibition hockey match.

The attempt was made January 19, as the fifth-annual Kimmett Cup Pond Hockey Tournament teamed up with Martin Parnell and Right To Play. Three hundred and seventy-four participants laced up for the event, held on the ice at the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre.

The hockey-filled weekend — held in memory of Lindsay Kimmett and on behalf of the Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation — raised about $100,000 for Right To Play.

“Each year the Guinness record book comes out and, as a kid, you look at the book with a sense of wonderment,” said Reid Kimmett, event organizer and brother of Lindsay Kimmett. “I think Lindsay, like me, would enjoy the fact that we helped a couple hundred kids become a part of that record book. We made that dream happen for those kids.”

The announcement of the record was made Oct.5 during the Monumental Tournament of Aces, a golf tournament in support of the foundation.
