A new investment grant program by The Town aims to ignite stronger community connections by providing local not-for-profits a chance to apply for municipal grant funding support through the Community Investment Grant Program (CIGP).
The Town will be accepting applications for COGP until May 1, 2024, where projects, events, and festivals led by non-profit societies are eligible for matching funding through small or large-scale grants.
Through the program, the Town of Cochrane would partner with not-for-profit societies to start or continue an event that helps foster stronger community connections.
Cochrane community event liaison, Natalie Germann, said the unparalleled passion, creativity, and dedication shown by members of the community is truly remarkable.
“This grant program presents an exhilarating opportunity to enhance the initiatives of groups that unite people, cultivate joy, and foster connections," Germann said.
The community grant program is open for not-for-profit societies within Cochrane. Projects, events, and festivals that are accessible, inclusive, and engaging for all residents with a focus on arts, culture, heritage, community, and environmental stewardship are ideal initiatives supported by the grant.
In 2023, 21 small-scale projects and events, alongside five large-scale events were successful in receiving matching funding from the CIGP.
Mayor Jeff Genung said everyone in the community has a power to make a positive impact in the community.
"Large or small, we hope this grant program will inspire and support community members to deliver events that bring us together,” Genung said.
Applications will be evaluated on their community goals and enrichment alignment with the CIGP and Cochrane’s strategic plan. CIGP is approved for the annual operating budget.
It outlines that $5,400 will be dedicated for community association grants of up to $500 each, and $60,000 will be dedicated to both small- and large-scale festival and event matching grants of up to $2,500 and $15,000 respectively.
