A Morley man travelling on Calgary Transit LRT was kicked off the train despite having a bus pass and not causing a disturbance. Leland Cross Child was riding the train with a few family members on Nov. 21, including a cousin who was in medical emergency and needed to be taken off. However, when Calgary Transit peace officers came to assist his cousin, Cross Child was forced to get off just by association. Cross Child showed the transit officers his public transit monthly bus pass and despite asking if he could stay on the train he was told to get off. The transit officers at the scene told the Cochrane Eagle removing Cross Child was part of their "investigation." Cross Child, who has been living in Calgary recently, said he was told he wasn't welcome back on the train but that even if was he didn't feel comfortable doing so. He worries that he was being discriminated against based on his race. "I was scared," Cross Child said. "I just hear stories." Ron Collins, spokesperson for Calgary Transit, said while he couldn’t speak to specific cases due to privacy issues added it is up to the discretion of the transit officer if someone is removed.
