Cremona residents will have three mayoral and six council candidates to choose from when they head to the polls Oct. 21.
Karel Beckman, Elizabeth Bell and Tim Hagen are running for mayor and Derald Anderson, Margaret Bigelow, Robert Reid, Joseph Ching Shi, Sonia Temple and Jennie Thompson for council.
The impending five-person council (one mayor and four councillors) will be tasked with finding a new chief administrative officer (CAO), as Terry Lofstrom, who currently holds the position has announced his retirement effective Oct. 31.
“It would be inappropriate for the official administrator to recruit and appoint a new CAO without the input of the new council,” official administrator Eric McGhan wrote in a notice to village residents.
In the interim, Luana Smith of the Town of Didsbury will act as CAO from Nov. 1, 2013 to Jan. 31, 2014.
McGhan also indicated that a contractor has been hired to undertake sidewalk repairs and replacement.
The project is weather dependent, and McGhan is asking residents to cooperate with workers.
The Cremona and District Fire Authority was abolished Sept. 11, and fire services in the village are now the responsibility of Mountain View County.
