In a continued effort to preserve the natural environment, the Town of Cochrane has announced that new fencing will be installed along the Bow River this June to protect local wildlife and sensitive ecosystems.

The initiative, revealed in a recent post on the Town’s official Facebook page, will see post-and-rail fencing installed near the confluence of the Bow River, Big Hill Creek, and Millennium Creek.

“This project helps prevent erosion and protect sensitive trout spawning grounds,” the post reads. “Please respect the new fencing and stick to designated pathways when accessing the Bow River.”

The fencing is part of a collaborative effort between the Town and Bow Valley Habitat Development, a partnership aimed at enhancing habitat conservation and encouraging responsible recreation.

The targeted area is known for its ecological sensitivity, particularly as a trout spawning zone, making it crucial to minimize foot traffic and other disturbances to the riverbanks.

Residents and visitors are reminded to follow posted signage and stay on marked trails to support the health of the river and surrounding wildlife.
