Not-for-profit representatives will have a chance to learn about fund development from Christine McIver, founder and CEO of Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta, during a workshop at Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park.
Slated for Oct. 23, the session — entitled Fundraising for Non-Profits — will be held at the park’s Visitor Centre from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The park has been partnering with the Cochrane office of Bow Valley College for a series of workshops aimed at the non-profit sector.
The first of the sessions, which occurred in September, was based in media training.
This session on fundraising has been developed to teach non-profit learners about the issues within the sector, along with providing attendees with a review of governance and funding structures, and a glimpse at the impact of non-profits on the Canadian economy.
McIver will be leading the workshop, sharing her wealth of knowledge with program registrants.
“(McIver) is a noted leader in the field,” said Shauna Cox, regional lead for business and program development for the Cochrane office of Bow Valley College. “It’s exciting to give other non-profits the opportunity to learn from her knowledge and experience.”
Cox said registrants should expect to leave the workshop with a sense of the economic reality for a not-for-profit organization, along with the knowledge of the tools, rules and legislation for non-profit fund development.

“We’re trying to bring more educational opportunities to businesses and not-for-profits in the Calgary region,” said Cox.
As of press time the Fundraising for Non-Profits workshop still has a few spots available for interested parties.
The session costs $90 for the day and includes lunch.
