The annual One Rock Youth Festival, a faith-based Christian music festival geared toward families and young adults, will be setting up shop at Redwood Meadows this Aug. 14-16 (at the Tsuu T’ina Rodeo Grounds).

Last covered locally when the event was held at the nearby St. Francis Retreat in 2013, this year’s event will showcase the efforts of some 200 volunteers, guest speakers and celebrated musicians.

“We are having a lot more multimedia this year, with large screens,” said Mary Ann Donaleshen, youth ministry director for the Calgary Diocese (the event is supported by the dioceses of Alberta and the N.W.T.).

“On Friday evening, we will be having a geocaching event called ‘Soul Survivor Mission’…the local First Nations have been asked to participate in the festival and we hope to highlight their presence on the Saturday. We also have a treat this year for our Sunday afternoon closing concert when we will be joined by a winner from Romania’s Got Talent, Ioana Mirti, and our very own Fr. Lawrence Manaloche as they perform our final concert.”

The aim of the festival is to ‘celebrate faith and discover an enduring relationship with the One Rock, Jesus Christ’, encouraging the participation and attendance of as many youth as possible.
