There are only a few spaces remaining for foodies wishing to attend ‘FoodX Cochrane’ June 6 at St. Andrew’s Church from 6-9 p.m.

“We are so overwhelmed at the positive response,” said Karla Cox of Provisions Permaculture, who is organizing the event along with the Cochrane CookHouse and the Cochrane Environmental Action Committee.

The event will discuss a number of hot topics related to food sustainability — including harvesting, the danger of GMOs, the right for people to grow and raise their own food, food sovereignty and food policy.

“We hope to empower and inspire individuals and we look forward to seeing what develops from the strength inherent in this community we have tried to create,” said Cox.

“Diversity brings strength and we all have something to offer…FoodX is just the beginning.”

The evening features an esteemed panel of guest speakers, including Rob Avis from Verge Permaculture, Rene Michalak of ReThink Red Deer, Paul Hughes from Grow Calgary and Brenda Barritt from Earth Works Farm.

The event is free, although donations will be gratefully received at the door to offset event costs.

Those who wish to attend should register at cochranecookhouse.ca or provisionspermaculture.com as only a handful of tickets will be available at the door.
