Pipe band, dancers ready for Robbie Burns Night

The days are dwindling down until the pipes are fully warmed up and ready for Robbie Burns Night, the Scottish-themed celebration of the life and work of poet Robert Burns.

The days are dwindling down until the pipes are fully warmed up and ready for Robbie Burns Night, the Scottish-themed celebration of the life and work of poet Robert Burns.

Hosted by the Cochrane Men of Vision Pipes and Drums, the evening full of music, dancing, food and drink will be held at the Cochrane RancheHouse on Jan. 26.

The Men of Vision themselves will be hitting the stage, putting on a show with an entirely new set.

“The performance by the band will be great,” said Leslie Deans, manager of the Cochrane Men of Vision Pipes and Drums. “They have been practicing for months and months — they sound phenomenal. “

Later in the evening, Celtic band Cabot’s Crossing is slated to entertain the crowd with their musical prowess, and dancers from the Springbank School of Highland Dance will demonstrate their leaps and twirls.

Local caterer, Gourmet To Go, will be serving up a full-roast beef buffet dinner, so partygoers are encouraged to bring their appetites.

Eric Peach, a former member of the Men of Vision, will once again be giving the address to the haggis — a toast in honour of the Scottish delicacy, said Deans. Between traditional toasts and Scotch whiskey tastings, there will be plenty of drink to help celebrate the Jan. 25 birthday of the famous poet.

The fun gets started with cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m.

Deans said there are still a few tickets available for the event, costing $75 each or $560 for a table of eight. They can be ordered until Jan. 25 by calling Leslie at 403-932-7446 or Susan at 403-932-2228.
