Police confirm remains found near Cochrane are human

The RCMP major crimes unit has received lab results confirming that a gruesome discovery south of Cochrane on Oct. 13 was in fact human remains.

Around 10:50 a.m. on Oct. 13, a call was placed to Cochrane RCMP by local residents, who believe they stumbled across some type of human remains near Township Road 252.

The local detachment notified RCMP major crimes unit and the forensic identification section, who responded to the scene.

Edmonton’s Sgt. Josee Zaliquette said on Oct. 16, that RCMP were unable to comment on the condition of the remains or if they were, in fact, human, but confirmed that they were the following day.

An investigation will now follow.
