Police investigate assault on Stoney Nation

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Cochrane RCMP responded to the call on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation at around 2 p.m, said Constable Jared Hockley.

The victim — who suffered injuries to his arm — was transported to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary following the attack. He has since been released, said Hockley.

“The investigation remains open, but Cochrane RCMP do have a suspect in mind,” he said.

Weekend Collision

A 35-year-old Cochrane man is facing impaired driving charges following a single vehicle rollover along Highway 1A, according to Hockley.

The driver was the lone occupant in the pickup truck when it veered off the rainy roads June 2. No one was injured in the crash, said Hockley.

The accused will appear in provincial court in Cochrane July 4.

In addition the rollover, the local detachment is continuing to investigate the cause of the three-vehicle accident that occurred May 26 on Springbank Road, resulting in injuries to eight of the 10 people involved — including four children.

“There have been no charges files as of yet,” said Hockley. “The investigation is outstanding, we’re still waiting on reports back from the collision reconstructionist.”

Ongoing investigations

Investigation continues to locate the two males suspected of a number of vehicle break-ins in Cochrane May 16.

The thefts are alleged to have occurred in a residential subdivision between midnight and 5:30 a.m., with the culprits making off with wallets and cash. The suspects then used stolen credit cards at various locations in Cochrane and Olds, Alta., and were captured on video surveillance in the process.

Both suspects are Caucasian males between the ages of 18-21 with short, dark hair. The first suspect stands between 5’6” and 5’8”, and was wearing a multi-coloured/patterned hooded jacket, jeans and dark baseball cap when he was caught on camera. The second suspect stands between 5’9” and 5’11” and was dressed in a dark-coloured American Eagle hooded sweater, dark-coloured T-shirt, jeans and a light-coloured belt.

In addition, Cochrane RCMP are still on the look out for the culprit responsible for the break and enter at Bragg Creek’s Spirits West Wine and Liquor Merchants April 5.

Caught on surveillance video, a male crashed a dark-coloured, quad-cab, 4X4 truck into the front door of the store before making off with about $1,000 worth of booze.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, standing about 5’9” to 5’11” with a slight build. At the time of the theft, he was dressed in a dark jacket with a light-coloured stripe down the sleeve and lettering across the chest, a dark toque with a decal on the right side, jeans and white shoes.
