A Redwood Meadows contractor returns to court Jan. 29 to discuss making restitution to three former clients who are collectively owed $55,000.
Kieron Warren will appear at Calgary provincial court, where he was sentenced last November and fined $8,000 for five charges of breaching the province’s Fair Trading Act.
Warren earlier pleaded guilty to operating without a licence and for failing to provide a full refund when he neglected to complete renovation work on kitchens.
The charges stem from 2007 and 2008 when Warren operated Hillcrest Renovations.
Provincial court judge Heather Lamoureux told Warren’s lawyer she wanted to see the 39-year-old in court Jan. 29 to discuss restitution.
According to provincial standards, contractors who take advance payments are required to have a special licence allowing them to do so and must maintain a security fund to ensure clients get refunds for jobs that are cancelled or not finished.
Service Alberta has issued an order mandating that Warren stop operating under his current business, KREATE Cabinets and taking prepayments.
Service Alberta is currently investigating complaints from 13 clients of KREATE Cabinets, who have said Warren owes them a combined estimated $400,000 for work he never completed between 2011 and 2012.
Warren has a history of financial problems. Documents filed in Court of Queen’s Bench in 2010 revealed he filed for bankruptcy that year seeking discharge from more than $900,000 debts to 13 creditors.
His request was denied because he refused to provide income records or take court-mandated counselling.
