Rocky View Schools’ Board of Trustees has announced Don Hoium as its incoming superintendent of schools.
Currently, Hoium is the executive director of the Saskatchewan league of educational administrators, directors and superintendents. He has 34 years of experience in the pre-K to 12 sector, and has held senior positions at district, provincial, national and international level.
“(Hoium) has a proven track record as a student-centred leader who advances innovative practices in preparing students for today’s competitive global marketplace,” said Bruce Pettigrew, chair of the board of trustees. “I feel certain Don’s collaborative, distributed leadership style will complement our system and continue to advance our transformation into a 21st century learning organization.”
Hoium has previously served as the superintendent/director of education for Regina Public Schools, where he implemented initiatives that include a role clarification and accountability governance model, a 10-year facility renewal plan and numerous strategic community partnerships.
He recently finished a one-year appointment to Saskatchewan’s Joint Task Force to Improve First Nations and Métis Education and Employment Outcomes.
“I’m very honoured to be joining such an innovative and achieving school division,” said Hoium.
His appointment as RVS’ superintendent of schools is effective Jan. 1.
