Pet owners in Cochrane will have the chance to get some new glam shots of their furry friends thanks to the Fur Family Photo Shoot on June 24.
The family-friendly, pet-centric event will take place next to Cochrane’s Booster Juice, where guests can have their pet’s photo taken by a professional photographer for $20, or for a donation of new pet supplies.
Proceeds will help support the Cochrane Humane Society, and the event will also feature a raffle.
The photo shoot will be hosted by Royal LePage Benchmark and is organized by Joey Cyr with the Ken Morris team at Royal LePage Benchmark, Jana Husmann of Royal LePage Benchmark, Sarah Ball of Open Door Marketing, and Cheryl Jessamine of Advanced Mortgages.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Husmann said visitors who bring a donation will be given the chance to have their photo professionally taken by one of the multiple professional photographers stationed at the event.
“People can get their picture taken with their furry friend, and it doesn’t matter what kind,” Husmann said. “If you bring your goat, guinea pig, dog, or cat – it doesn’t matter.”
Cyr explained that since he was a new member of Cochrane and a fellow animal lover, he came up with this idea and worked alongside Husmann to create a new way to engage with the community and support local businesses at the same time.
“I was trying to incorporate a way that we could basically bring a whole bunch of people together and [do] something different that hasn’t really been done before,” he said.
As well as being a fun event for participants, Husmann said a main goal for the photo shoot is to help raise funds for and awareness of the Cochrane Humane Society.
Cyr added that another main focus of the event will feature special guests from the Humane Society that locals can meet first-hand – or, rather, first-paw.
“The Human Society is actually going to be bringing in application forms and bringing in puppies, so people can see them first-hand and be like – ‘Hey, these animals need a home,’” he said.
From animal medical assistance to rehabilitation, to dog training, and many other avenues that many may be unaware of, both Husmann and Cyr hope this event will continue to spread the message about the services offered by the Cochrane Humane Society.
“So, if we are able to bring the awareness for all of that, and have people understand just how much the Human Society relies on local donation, and how much they do for these animals, that’s a win-win for us,” Cyr said.
Husmann said that both she and Cyr look forward to the shoot, and are grateful to see all the support from local businesses and the community that is coming their way. With $1,825 already raised, Cyr said they are well on their way to surpassing their target of $2,500.
Both Husmann and Cyr would also like to thank the gold sponsors for the event Rebecca Penner of the Sunset Ridge Veterinary Clinic, Pet Valu Cochrane, Harvest Dental, Arrowhead Veterinary Clinic, Cochrane Toyota, Mr. Mikes Steakhouse Cochrane, and Summit Legal Group.
“We’ve had incredible feedback from the community, and we are very excited about this,” Cyr said.
