Parents with children attending school in the Rocky View Schools board are being asked to participate in two surveys designed to gather feedback on how the board should adjust their operations in light of the provinces’ fiscal reality through its 2020 Budget Consultation.
The surveys are planned for Feb. 10 and March 30. The first will precede the release of the provincial budget on Feb. 27 and will ask families and residents to assist the board in identifying budget priorities, cost-saving measures and revenue-generating ideas.
The second survey launches after the provincial budget is announced and will ask for input into how the board can balance its budget to support students.
“In an environment of fiscal restraint and growing enrolments, we need to identify how we will continue to provide students with the world-class education system our families have to come to expect of Rocky View Schools,” said board chair Fiona Gilbert.
“We will continue to flow as many dollars directly to the classroom as possible; however, to ensure students continue to learn the skills and knowledge that they need to succeed, thrive and contribute to our growing economy, we will need to find new ways of doing things.”
On May 21 the board will have their Board of Trustees Public Meeting, and will review feedback received through the consultation process as it prepares to deliberate and approve a balanced budget to the provincial government by May 31.
