Out with the old and in with the new, as they say.
And there is a new saloon in town, setting up shop in the Railway Street address previously occupied by the Texas Gate Eatery and Saloon.
Now home to the Bullhorn Saloon, the space is now under the ownership of Rose Dallyn, proprietor of Bragg Creek’s PowderHorn Saloon.
Dallyn took possession of the establishment on Jan. 3 and immediately got to work re-inventing the space — grabbing the bull by the horns, if you will.
“I want to make it a place where an 18-year-old would want to come and an 88-year-old would want to come,” said Dallyn of her goals for the new saloon. “I want the bar to stay a saloon, but I think there is a little bit more we can offer.”
These offerings include weekly bands and DJs, as well as menu selection of pub-style food, steaks, and burgers with an array of toppings.
Regular patrons of the previous tenant will be surprised by the new look of the space, said Dallyn. The carpet has been ripped out, the dance floor moved, a new bar constructed, along with new kitchen and bathroom facilities — among other renovations.
Although she admitted the renovation process has been stressful, Dallyn said she’s looking forward to setting up shop in Cochrane.
“I’m very excited to meet the other bar owners and work together,” she added.
“And I love the idea of being in Cochrane. The community has been so welcoming, supportive and encouraging.”
The Bullhorn Saloon will remain very much a community establishment, said Dallyn, although the bar will share the saloon-style qualities with its Bragg Creek sister, the PowderHorn Saloon.
At this point, Dallyn said she’s unsure of when the saloon will be opening.
Dallyn said the saloon’s website — bullhornsaloon.ca — should be up and running soon.
