The Springbank Park For All Seasons Agricultural Society is gearing up for another fun-filled fall fair.

Running for more than 40 years, the Springbank Old Tyme Country Fair is back for another year on Sept. 7 with entertainment, games and food for the whole family.

“This is such a great family event because there is something for everyone - from young and old - and lots of events for parents and kids to do together,” said Lisa Constantineau, assistant administrative coordinator for the park.

Constantineau said that although the fair has shifted from its origins as a horticulture showcase, it continues to celebrate Springbank’s heritage and agricultural roots.

“There’s such great importance to keep the spirit and agricultural history of this area alive with the next generation, especially considering how much Springbank has changed in the last 10 years,” she said.

Judging competitions will showcase home-grown fruit and vegetables, sewing projects, baking and photography. Exhibits such as rope-making and antiques will also be on display.

The Old Tyme Country Fair kicks off with the fifth Annual Fun Walk and Run at 8 a.m. Participants can choose the five-kilometre or 10-kilometre course, departing from the Park For All Seasons. New this year is a four-on-four Ball Hockey Tournament, also starting at 8 a.m.

The Springbank Lions Club will be serving up pancakes for fair-goers from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

“Our outdoor stage will feature an exciting line-up including the Springbank Dancers, the Chinook Country Line Dancers and the band Prairie Heat,” said Constantineau. Live entertainment begins at 9 a.m. and wraps up at 5 p.m.

The Springbank Church Westlife will be putting on a Kid’s Zone with many activities such as bouncy castles, a cow-milking contest, mini golf and an obstacle course. Kids can also take advantage of the pony rides offered by the Springbank 4-H Riding Club.

“New this year, people can sample beer, wine and tapas for a small fee in our Tasting Tent,” said Constantineau, adding the tent will be open from noon to 5 p.m.

“There’s a lot to see and do and many free activities, so we’re hoping people will come out and enjoy the day,” said Constantineau, adding the fair is expecting to attract about 3,000 people.
