A pair of Town of Cochrane staff ended up on an unexpected fishing trip a few weeks back during the Southern Alberta floods.
Municipal enforcement officers Brad Tomlinson and Sergeant Charlene Ruttle rescued several fish when they stumbled across two large puddles along the pathways east of the Highway 22 bridge while in the area assessing flood damage.
“We grabbed nets and started to swish through the puddles,” said Tomlinson. “Before we knew it, we were rescuing fish.”
In the end, Tomlinson and Ruttle rescued 38 medium and large speckled trout and white fish, along with numerous baby fish, releasing them back into the Bow River.
“We were soaked by the end of it,” said Ruttle, “but it felt good to help.”
Cleanup of the pathways that run along the river is presently being done, and it is expected that it could take some time to complete.
