The Cochrane Eagle is asking candidates an issue-based question each week leading up to the election that they will answer in their own words. If a candidate does not answer a question, we will include a bio box with a disclaimer saying the candidate did not respond. All candidates were given a limit of 185 words and questions will be edited to fit that length. Our third question is:

How do you plan to address the town’s growing traffic congestion?

Sorry to tell you, the traffic is going to get worse before it gets better! But there is hope! The new bridge across the river will keep vehicles off the highway. The 1A and 22 intersection upgrade will improve the traffic flow. We need to get public transit in place to offer a big solution to these problems! Let’s get cars off the road and out of the parking lots. Let’s get the isolated seniors and youth to the pool, the RancheHouse and shopping. Cochrane has $6 million from the province for the infrastructure. It takes a year to order the small buses. Let’s get going!

Let’s look at other’s innovative ideas such as car share programs, Car to Go and one-way streets. We need to work closely with the Calgary Regional Partnership and Rocky View County to ensure we are eligible for all new projects and funding.

Finally, we need to keep supporting those who have been filling the gaps like Rocky View Regional Handi-bus and the CAR program (subsidized taxi service) through Cochrane Family & Community Support Services (FCSS).
