Cochrane council members doled out a handful of grants to various community organizations on Oct. 9 — $10,641 in total.
The town received 13 applications, totalling nearly $21,000 in grant requests.
Council ultimately approved nine of the submissions.
Those receiving grant money include:
• Cochrane Rangers Soccer Club ($500)
• Cochrane and Area Events Society ($2,000)
• Cochrane Historical and Archival Preservation Society ($1,000)
• Seniors for Kids Society ($1,000)
• Arts and Culture Foundation of Cochrane (ACFC) ($1,541)
• Cochrane Comets Swim Club ($1,000)
• Cochrane Sport 4 Life Association ($1,000)
• Cochrane and District Agricultural Society ($1,000)
• Nan Boothby Memorial Library ($1,600)
The total amount of grant money provided by the town out of their 2012 budget was $25,000.
Grants application deadlines are April 1 and Sept. 1 each year.
The first round of grants saw $14,900 provided, leaving $10,100 in the town’s pocket for the Sept. 1 deadline.
Not all who submitted an application were provided with a grant.
The Cochrane Lions Club was denied a $2,000 request to support the Rodeo Royalty; the Cochrane and District Warm Water Therapy Society did not receive their $1,500 request for project information acquisition; and the Cochrane and Area Events Society was not granted one of their requests, $1,750 for Rolling Thunder 2012.
Of the 13 applications, three — the Cochrane Rangers, ACFC and Nan Boothby Library — were provided with a grant equal to their original request.
