Town of Cochrane street sweeping starts this week

“To effectively clean our roads from curb-to-curb, all vehicles must be removed from the streets,” Hume said. “Residents are asked to relocate their vehicles to driveways, alleys, and parking lots during their neighbourhood sweep.”

The Town asks Cochranites to get ready, as they are scheduled to officially start street-sweeping as early as May 1.

The snow has melted and spring has sprung, which means Cochranites are being reminded to get ready, as the Town has officially started its annual street-sweeping schedule.

Each subdivision in town is scheduled for a day of sweeping outside of regular community waste and recycling days.

Pre-sweeps have been conducted over the last few weeks, and crews have been successfully removing significant winter sanding material from roads ahead of the main residential sweeping program.

Roads Manager for the Town of Cochrane, Wally Hume, asks residents for help in cleaning efforts by kindly adhering to the signs installed in their communities that ask to please move their vehicle to off-street parking

“To effectively clean our roads from curb-to-curb, all vehicles must be removed from the streets,” Hume said. “Residents are asked to relocate their vehicles to driveways, alleys, and parking lots during their neighbourhood sweep.”

To better help inform the community of the coming schedule, notification signs will be placed at neighbourhood entrances 48-hours ahead of a street cleaning. Signs will be removed when a street cleaning is complete, and on-street parking can resume in these locations.

During cleaning times, residents are asked to move curbside ramps, hockey nets, and basketball hoops as to not disrupt the street sweepers. Residents are also reminded that sporting equipment should be kept on private property.

The Town also advises that street sweeping creates significant dust, and thus warns residents that they may want to keep their windows closed while their community is being swept.
