Cochranites are being asked to respond to a Town survey until Aug. 1 about the municipality's age-friendly initiative.

The Town of Cochrane issued a news release on July 12 requesting residents of all ages to visit the Town's website and fill out the online survey before the end of the month.

According to the Town's news release, the Alberta Age-Friendly Recognition Program supports municipalities to respond proactively to the growth of the senior population. The study will look at the built environment, such as transportation, housing, parks and recreation, as well as health services and civic and social environments.

“Our goal is to create an age-friendly community where there are no barriers to access services, programs, businesses and facilities,” said Kim Krawec, Manager of FCSS for the Town of Cochrane, in the news release. “This research will help us get closer to a community that is inclusive, accessible, and supportive of all residents, throughout their lifespan,

“This survey will play an important role in identifying areas for improvement and understanding the needs of the growing senior population in Cochrane.”

In early June, the public engagement survey was opened to select senior residents as a part of Cochrane’s Seniors’ Week. The same age-friendly survey is now open to all residents via Let’s Talk Cochrane.

After the survey's deadline, the Town stated that various public forums and targeted focus groups will be held “to help further guide the development and plan to bring Cochrane closer to becoming an age-friendly community.”
