Town workshops aim to help small businesses with its marketing

The Town of Cochrane will hold a pair of workshops in the coming month in an effort to help small businesses improve upon its marketing and business process skills.

The Town of Cochrane will hold a pair of workshops in the coming month in an effort to help small businesses improve upon its marketing and business process skills.

“Many small business owners are very good at providing their product or service,” said Robert Kalinovich, an economic development officer with the town.

“However, business owners have also commented that skills for improving their business with analysis, communication, marketing or other tools, is not always something that they are aware of how to obtain.”

The first workshop is Oct. 22 and will address real life marketing strategies to boost small business.

Topics will include database building, community opportunities, local advertising initiatives and co-op marketing.

“Business owners will learn about clearly defining their target market,” said Kalinovich, “and explore conventional and unconventional ways to communicate with that market about their offered services or products.”

The second workshop is scheduled for Nov. 8 and will aim to use real life application to move small business into the ‘cloud,’ something Kalinovich said would teach which business productivity services are available online and ways for multiple users to access company information from anywhere in the world.

Attendees are urged to bring a laptop computer with them for this session.

Bow Valley College instructors will lead the workshops, bringing their academic knowledge and practical business experience to the table.

“We chose Bow Valley College because they’ve already made a commitment to this community by opening an office here,” said Kalinovich, “and we’re doing our best to make sure they are able to get established in Cochrane in the best way possible.”

Both workshops will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and take place at the Cochrane RancheHouse.

It is $60 to attend one of the workshops, and lunch is included.
