About 165 students will be hitting the back roads of Rocky View County, walking more than 10 kilometres to raise money for Westbrook School.
The K-8 school students will hit the pavement — or the dirt — Sept. 27 for the annual Westbrook School Walk-a-thon. Every student in the school will participate in the trek, with the Kindergarten to Grade 3 students hiking 12 kilometres, and the older students travelling 15 kilometres.
“This fundraiser is meant to raise money for the kids,” said Lisa Gillett, a volunteer and coordinator of the event. “These funds help students gain access to tools and equipment they may not otherwise have access to.”
Last year, the Walk-a-thon raised about $23,000. A fundraising goal is never set for the school-wide trek, said Gillett.
Instead, the students are encouraged to collect as many pledges as they are able.
