Looking for a place to hold that birthday party or special seasonal event on your calendar? Look no further than Cochrane’s Frank Wills Memorial Hall. Located at 405 First St. E., the facility used for Beavers and Cubs meetings is a cost-effective way to host gatherings of many shapes and sizes.
“I’d like to see more charitable organizations in here,” says Hall manager Mel Dickinson. “I would hope to see them making more use of the hall.
“We offer really good rates for them. We do, like, $30 an hour for the hall.”
But that rate is not cast in stone.
“When you put rates in, I find there’s no room to talk about it. If a group wants to come in and rent long term, I would give them a better rate. Sometimes I hate putting rates in. But I want people to know how affordable it is.”
The hall is run by a volunteer board and hosts a variety of community groups.
“We have fitness groups that come in. Every day we have a Beavers group or Cubs group. The hall was built specifically for Cubs and Guides use. We are a non-profit ourselves, so we’re obviously looking to rent out to other people as well.”
The hall can accommodate as many as 130 people for a meal, and ‘tis the season to get together in large groups.
“With it coming up to Christmas, I would like it to get out to local companies, if they’re looking for somewhere to have a potluck Christmas dinner, we have a full catering kitchen,” Dickinson relates. “We have everything here they would need for any event. We have brand-new chairs and tables. We have linen. The dining sets. We have a group coming in that’s bringing in their own chef. We have a janitorial service. They don’t even have to do their own cleanup if they don’t want to do it.”
