Local singer/songwriter Angus Wilson sure has a full plate.

From artistic director of the Cochrane Valley Folk Club to Legacy Guitar and Coffee House concert booker to producer to musician – you could say he has an all-you-can-eat buffet in front of him.

But as Wilson explained, this summer he has been focusing a bit more on his solo work. He will be kicking off the fall season at Legacy with a solo performance Sept. 6.

Wilson is part of the band Stoning Mary, a four-piece rock band with Wilson on guitar and vocals, Bryan Wilson on drums and percussion, Marc Eshleman on guitar and Joel Fraser on bass.

Wilson said that although the band is still going strong, and has plans to enter the studio with new material in the fall; this summer he has had a little more time to focus on solo material.

His last release as a solo artist was 2008’s In the Grey and his material has progressed a lot since then.

“It’s progressed so much, my solo music, since the last album. Every time I sell a CD, I still love the In the Grey album, but I know as I’m selling them that I can’t wait for people to hear the new stuff,” said Wilson.

He said he plans to release solo material in the next six months, but he isn’t sure in what form yet, discussing the possibility of either two EPs, a full album or some combination of both.

Either way, the material is going to demonstrate what Wilson has learned in the last six years.

Growth is something that keeps coming up as Wilson discussed solo material.

“The biggest education process has come from recording my own stuff. Sitting there at three or four in the morning and continuing and learning and pushing,” said Wilson. “I’ve definitely put my 10,000 hours into it. You always want to be progressing. There isn’t a point where you can stop and say, ‘I’m as good as I’m going to be.’”
