A 29-year-old Tsuu T’ina Nation woman has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a male two-year-old child.
The child died in a Calgary hospital Sept. 25, 2014, admitted to hospital one week earlier after sustaining injuries while in the care of the woman.
Tsuu T‘ina Nation Police Services assisted the RCMP Serious Crimes Branch in the investigation. The investigation was concluded following the return of the autopsy results this past April.
The woman was arrested July 31, has been remanded and made her first appearance in a Calgary court Aug. 4.
Local RCMP, with the assistance of the Cochrane Integrated Traffic Unit, checked over 500 vehicles throughout the August long weekend, many which passed through a Checkstop set up along Hwy 1A Aug. 1.
Throughout the weekend (July 31-Aug. 2), charges laid included: five impaired driving; six provincial suspensions; 33 provincial violation tickets were issued; and one quantity of a controlled substance was seized.
The RCMP wish to remind Cochrane drivers to ensure they have a safe ride home when celebrating and to avoid drinking and driving.
Charges may be pending and alcohol could have been a factor in a single-vehicle rollover that took place around 7:35 a.m. Aug. 4.
The male driver of a Dodge Ram pickup was travelling westbound along Highway 1A and reportedly lost control and hit the ditch while coming down Big Hill into Cochrane.
He was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of a black Mustang involved in a two-vehicle collision that took place Aug. 3 has been charged with making an illegal U-turn.
The Mustang was headed northbound on Hwy 22 near Sunset Blvd. around 2 p.m. The driver, after making an illegal U-turn to head southbound on Hwy 22, was struck by a pickup truck. The resulting damage to both vehicles was extensive.
Passengers from both vehicles were taken to hospital for assessment for non-life threatening injuries and later released.

Cochrane RCMP and EMS responded to a three-vehicle MVC that took place around 11:15 a.m. July 31.
The incident occurred westbound on Highway 1 near Range Road 40, where one person was treated for non-life threatening injuries and was later released.
All three vehicles hit the ditch to avoid collision with a line up of long weekend traffic, including one rollover involving a white Dodge Challenger. The two other vehicles also wound up in the ditch — a Ford Edge and a Toyota Four Runner.
RCMP officers continue to investigate.
Forty-one-year-old Terence Twoyoungmen of Morley was arrested and charged with impaired driving and driving while suspended July 29 following a two-vehicle collision that took place around 11:30 p.m. at Fifth Avenue and Griffin Road.
Twoyoungmen was driving, accompanied by three passengers from, also from Morley (all reported by RCMP to have been intoxicated), when he reportedly struck another vehicle with two occupants.
The two occupants in the second vehicle were examined on scene by EMS but were uninjured.
