As the community ramps up for the Calgary Stampede, Cochranites can expect no shortage of Stampede Breakfasts taking place around town.

Redwood Meadows hosted its annual Canada Day Bike Parade on July 1, followed by an afternoon of community-focused fun activities.

It has been described as a favourite weekend gathering spot, a place to enjoy the best slow-cooked meat in the world, and an eyesore.

“Originally (the covenant) was put in place to protect the residents and give them some peace of mind that they would have a say in what was happening in land adjacent to theirs, and that was signed off on all those years ago and it’s been upheld, and that’s exactly what should’ve happened,” Genung said.

RCMP are investigating a vehicle-pedestrian collision that happened on Canada Day.

Cochranites partook in several patriotic and pleasant Canada Day events at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 15 and Mitford Park on July 1.

The open house starts at 6 p.m. and will go until 8 p.m.

The mural project was funded by a Heritage Canada grant from the Government of Canada. This re-opening fund was designed to help communities recover and rebuild after the COVID-19 pandemic.
