“It’s been a labour of love— Growing up he taught us how to work on things,” Thirsk said. “My dad started on it in the 90s— We spent a lot of time in the garage because we were very interested in what our dad was doing.”

"My voice was hoarse at the end, of course, from cheering them on, but also out of the excitement of seeing them do so well. They went out and ran their hearts out and had great races. I feel so inspired and proud of them.” 

“I think everybody has been impacted so much by COVID this year,” Leonzio said. “The non-profits need help just as much as anyone right now— They’re a very valuable part of the community and this event, in general, is about promoting community and bringing people together.”

“With this project, we are controlling our own destiny," Genung said. “While we are waiting for the province to come to the table and kick off their project on the 1A-22, we are going to get to work on the 1A through Cochrane.”

“They were doing what they could to help their communities— It's really no different than what we’re doing now,” Davies said. “We’re still being respectful to each other, we do fundraising— The promise and lore that we’ve had since the very start of guiding in 1910 it hasn’t changed and neither have our values.”

EDMONTON — More than 430 Alberta doctors and three major health unions are urging Premier Jason Kenney to invoke short, sharp public health restrictions to reverse a soaring rate of COVID-19.
