The Cochrane Dollar initiative, launched in 2017, is a partnership between Town of Cochrane Economic Development, ATB Financial (Cochrane branch) and the Cochrane Monetary Foundation (a non-profit group of local small business people). The project received grant funding from the Alberta Economic Development Community and Regional Economic Support (CARES) program.

The fire that took place in a home located on Highway 22, north of Cochrane Toyota, directly across from Rolling Range Drive was determined to be caused by a heat lamp when the tenants of the house were defrosting frozen water lines in their garage.

Since the organization’s inception in 2016, they have raised $250K through fundraising initiatives.

“We’ve finally successfully concluded an issue that has been discussed for over 30 years,” Premier Jason Kenney said. “I always say that Reconciliation cannot just be symbols and words it has to be actions. Today we are active.”

Funding available for residents whose property was damaged by overland flooding in June 2019.

The Building Bridges fundraising concert for Syrian refugees will take place on Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Cochrane Alliance Church.

This morning started like every other morning in November, except the atmosphere was more sombre and reflective.

Cochrane Fire Services inspector Jeff Avery said five occupants and several pets were evacuated safely while one small dog perished in the fire. He added that the contents of the home were a total loss.
