Labour Day has come and gone, which only means one thing for local hockey fans. The Cochrane Generals junior B hockey team is very close to kicking off their 2018-19 Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL) campaign after training camp opened Sept. 4.

Former Cochrane Generals defenceman Will Gretton has joined the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) Trojans Men's hockey team.

The Bow Valley Bobcats football team is shaking off the rust and are looking forward to the upcoming season, which will kick off for them on Sept. 7 against the George McDougall Mustangs.

Cochrane rugby star James O'Neill was handed a big honour when the University of Victoria Vikes player was named captain of the Team Canada U-20 rugby team that kicked off their 2018 Junior World Rugby Trophy play Aug. 28 in Bucharest, Romania.

Cochranite Connor McNeice represented the Town of Cochrane as well as his country proudly when he competed in the 2018 Junior Pan American Championships Aug. 17 to 19 in Fortaleza, Brazil.

The Cochrane Piranhas wrapped up a very successful swim season when the team participated in the Alberta Summer Swimming Association (ASSA) Provincial Championships Aug. 17 to 19 in Edmonton.

Last season's Tier 3 provincial football season ended the same way it had the last three years, with the Cochrane High Cobras being crowned the provincial champions after a 21-14 victory over the Holy Rosary Raiders on Nov. 24.

The Cochrane Piranhas are nearing the end of the swimming competition season and after a strong showing at the Regional Championships Aug. 11 and 12 will look to finish the season on a high note at Provincials.

Three Cochrane High Cobras football players travelled south of the boarder on Aug. 5 through until the 12 with the U-17 Team Alberta to strut their stuff at a week long development camp and exhibition games in Maui, Hawaii.
