The Robinson Outreach at RiverCross Ranch (ROARR) is hosting a Community Pancake Breakfast in honour of supporting seniors in need and youth at risk.
The event is taking place on June 22 at the RiverCross Ranch from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
"Our pancake breakfast is a true celebration of community," ROARR Executive Director Kristein Johnson said. "While we have hosted various gatherings over the years, this version of the breakfast began a few years ago and quickly became a favourite."
While the organization didn't host the event last year, Johnson said they felt strongly it needed to return and grow into something people look forward to every year.
According to her, this event is a means to showcase gratitude to ROARR's supporters while welcoming new friends to the ranch.
"A pancake breakfast feels right for ROARR; it is warm, welcoming and simple-- much like the spirit of the ranch itself," she expressed. "Sharing a homemade meal outdoor creates space for genuine conversation, laughter and community."
Whether you're a long-time donor, a new volunteer or simply curious about what ROARR does, the event is free for all, so there are no tickets or barriers—just an open invitation.
From the previous Community Pancake Breakfast, the live fiddle music creates an atmosphere that is festive and heartwarming, Johnson shared.
"Our 50/50 draw and raffle prizes always bring excitement and fun; seeing children and adults light up when they meet out miniature horses is a moment we all look forward to," she added.
One must wonder why horses-- because they serve as wonderful relationship role models for individuals of all ages and abilities.
As mentioned on ROARR's website, horses are sensitive to non-verbal communication; they respond immediately to the messages that individuals give them in the moment.
"Through their interactions with horses, individuals not only become more aware of how they communicate with others, but begin to recognize the consequences of their actions and choices."
Based on past turnouts and current buzz about the event among the community, ROARR is expecting over 200 guests this year, including families, longtime donors, volunteers and new visitors from Calgary, Cochrane, Rocky View County, Airdrie and surrounding areas.
ROARR's mission is to relieve the conditions associated with youth at risk and seniors in need by providing Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) and related activities.
EAL is an experiential life skills program based on objective-driven exercises that promote the development of necessary life skills and aid in personal growth.
In fact, it is nationally recognized in Canada and has shown notable success including developing meaningful and trusting relationships; understanding healthy boundaries; learning to accept responsibility and accountability; becoming self-aware of personal energy and its impact on others, and more.
The Community Pancake Breakfast is a chance for community to visit the ranch and experience the impact of what ROARR does firsthand.
