“It is non-discriminatory against gender, race, sexual orientation, economic status— It can affect anyone at any time in their life,” Big Hill Haven chair Valerie Gilmore said. “Domestic violence is a hidden aspect of our community, everybody knows it’s there but it’s very insidious and it hides among all of us.”

An additional two people have died due to the COVID-19 virus and 54 people are hospitalized.

"The risks posed from handling cash are no greater than those posed by touching other common surfaces like doorknobs, kitchen counters and handrails."

As business begin to reopen it is up to all of us to respect health protocols and treat each other with kindness.

“It’s a rite of passage,” Blough said. “You’re a grownup and you’re ready to strike out on your own.”

“The reality is these residents are vulnerable to the pandemic and they will continue to be until there is an effective vaccine to be found— It’s essential that we ensure that these facilities have the tools and the resources they need to protect their residents and their staff."

“This is just the tip of the iceberg,” said Cochrane Fire Services inspector Jeff Avery. “This is an opportunity to really open this up to a whole new level— It’s going to get better, better and better.”

There have been 57 new cases identified in the province, bringing the total number of active COVID-19 cases in Alberta to 1,064.
