The Beer Den, located at 31 Bow St, went above and beyond for Big Hill Haven on Friday (Mar. 6).
Beer Den owner Nicole Murphy (right) presented Big Hill Haven director Alanna Thompson (left) with a cheque for $449.45. The money was raised through the shop’s Beer Fest 2020 on Feb. 21.
"I chose Big Hill Haven as one of the organizations to support in the Beer Fest because helping women and children in a very difficult time in their lives is very important to me,” Murphy said.
She added that she spent six years volunteering and working at a women's shelter in Calgary and the experience was one of the more meaningful opportunities she’s had in her life.
“Empowering women is always something I will support".
Tara McFadden, fund development and spokesperson of Big Hill Haven said the organization is grateful for the ongoing donations from Cochrane and each dollar allows them to help people in need and work toward providing shelter for those struggling with domestic violence.
“Events like this help us with our funding and also raise the profile of the problem of domestic violence in Cochrane and area. Big Hill Haven is here to help thanks to donations like this."
