Cochrane RCMP continues to grapple with the surge of stolen vehicles affecting the area.
In three days, between Feb. 17 and 20, the RCMP reported seven stolen vehicles, one stolen trailer and three attempted thefts (one car was found a few blocks away, stuck in a snow bank).
During the same timeframe, Cochrane RCMP recovered 10 stolen vehicles and charges are pending against multiple suspects.
Cst. Kary Moore said the RCMP is doing what it can to educate residents on how to prevent car thefts.
“The Cochrane RCMP were making proactive patrols in residential areas of Cochrane, checking vehicles that were left running. If vehicles were located running and unlocked the keys were removed from the vehicle and returned to the homeowner,” Moore reported.
The Cochrane RCMP is reminding vehicle owners to lock their vehicles and put away items of value. As well to stay with vehicles if they are running.
