COCHRANE IN BRIEF, Feb. 18

Cochrane in Brief

Extreme temperatures creating hazardous conditions on Bow River

The Town of Cochrane has issued an extreme water hazard warning for the Bow River. The recent extreme temperatures, combined with the fluctuating water levels of the Bow River have created particularly hazardous conditions. The constantly shifting conditions have created a buildup of ice and ice shelves that protrude over the water. These conditions can lead to void spaces under the ice, creating instability and the potential to fall into the freezing water. Residents are asked to keep off the ice, and keep children and dogs well away from the hazards present on the Bow River.

Community Supported Agriculture

Summit Hill Farm is hosting a panel discussion on Feb. 28 from 7 to 8 p.m. The talk will showcase community supported agriculture and local food in the Cochrane area. The event will feature representatives from four local farms, Early Dawn Farm, Fog Farms, Hive and Harvest and Summit Hill Farm, as well as an introduction from moderator Callandra Caufield of the Backyard Harvest Project. Each representative will share the history of their farms, growing practices, where you can find the products they produce and how you can support your local food producers. Attendees will also be entered to win a bag of seasonal items from the speakers. Tickets are available at csaweekcochrane.eventbrite.ca or visit summithillfarm.ca to learn more.
