Cochrane RCMP recovered a stolen all-terrain vehicle (quad) in Cochrane on Jan. 29.
The investigation included Edmonton Police Services after a 2008 Polaris Quad was stolen from the City of Edmonton. Information about the theft led investigators to an address in Cochrane.
Cochrane RCMP were waiting on a search warrant when a suspect was observed leaving a residence with the stolen quad in the back of a truck. RCMP followed the truck and conducted a high-risk traffic stop on Highway 22, near Fireside Drive. The 30-year-old male from Cochrane was found to be impaired by alcohol, and police also found a .22-caliber firearm in the vehicle.
The suspect was taken into custody and is currently awaiting a bail hearing for charges of possession of stolen property, two counts of breach of firearms prohibition, 72 hours driving prohibition and a charge for open liquor in a vehicle.
