A Cochrane woman is thanking the Cochrane Fire Department for its quick response after her home was struck by lightning on July 28.

Catharina Reyneke posted her gratitude on the Living in Cochrane, Alberta Facebook page on Tuesday.

"After lightning struck our home last night, we were left shaken and unsure of what damage might have been done-- but thanks to some truly incredible people, we quickly felt safe, supported, and cared for," Reyneke said.

She went on to praise firefighters who responded and came to do a wellness check on her family after hearing about the strike.

"Their calm, professional presence was so reassuring during such a stressful time," Reyneke said. "They didn’t just make sure our home was safe-- they also made a huge impression on our family. My 8-year-old son was absolutely mesmerized by the firetruck and the gear, and the firefighters took the time to chat with him and even take a photo with him by the engine. It meant the world to him (and to us)!

She also thanked the electrician who responded to her family's need.

"This morning, Steve from Swedburg Electric was a total lifesaver. He came out first thing and thoroughly checked all our wiring to make sure nothing was damaged. His knowledge, promptness, and genuine care were outstanding. We’re so grateful to have had such a skilled and trustworthy expert on hand."

Reyneke truly appreciated all the support from the community.

"To our amazing neighbours, and friends-- thank you for checking in, offering help, and showing so much kindness. Your care and support reminded us how lucky we are to be part of such a thoughtful community."

Cochrane has been hit by several significant storms in late July which have come with localized flooding and severe thunderstorm activity.
