A temporary location for the Cochrane Bright Path Daycare – which had its roof bow during heavy snowfall in late February – opened its doors on Monday.
Those seeking a daycare replacement after Bright Path was forced to shut its doors were able to bring their children to Frank Wills Memorial Hall after three weeks of the organization being out of service.
In the meantime, the old building is closed to the public until the repairs are complete, which Eva Kanovich, marketing and communications director, estimates to be in three to four months.
“The weight of the snow was the culprit of the incident ... It was substantial enough that for safety reasons we do need to get a full assessment,” Kanovich said, adding the facility is on lockdown until the nearly 2,500 square feet is repaired. “The only people allowed in the centre are those insured under the Bright Path policy.”
Kanovich said all families are invited to bring their children to the Frank Wills Memorial Hall as a temporary solution.
However, the usual services of the daycare are limited while at the temporary location and lunches will not be served. The daycare said it will be compensating families, as well as those looking to enlist their children.
“We understand that that’s an impact so we will be providing a monthly reimbursement based on the amount that is being lost or compensated for lunch,” Kanovich said. As well, all families looking to re-enlist their children will be offered discounts for the Cochrane location and all other Bright Path daycares.
As of now, a general assessment of the damage has been complete and Royop Development Corporation, the Bright Path building landlord, has confirmed the construction process is underway.
