July 18 is a little more than a week away, and organizers of Parks Day across Canada would like to once again invite the public to celebrate at Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park for the Riversong Run at the Ranch and family-friendly festivities.

The run is part of the 5 Peaks trail running series, which offers five races of varying lengths for those of all fitness levels. Going from 7 to 11:30 a.m., the categories range from a children’s course to a half marathon. From 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., families can enjoy face painting, pony rides, interpretive play and other activities.

The Cochrane Eagle will again be the media sponsor for the Riversong Run at the Ranch, which, as of July 6, had 339 registered participants.

At 2:15 p.m., organizers will announce the result of the Calgary to Cochrane (C To C) Trail fundraising drive. The drive’s mission was to raise money for the building of the Trans-Canada Trail through the park to link Cochrane and Calgary together.

This year’s Parks Day celebration at Glenbow Park will be presented by the Rotary Club of Cochrane, which have partnered with the Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation (GRPF) and Alberta Parks.

“The Rotary Club of Cochrane has been a great supporter of the (foundation) and the park since the beginning,” said GRPF development officer Tara McFadden.

“Without their support, it might not have happened at all.”

In 2014, over 1,000 people made their way out to Glenbow Park to participate in Parks Day, and organizers are hoping to exceed that number this time around and raise in excess of $10,000 toward the many endeavours of the GRPF. McFadden said she expects this year’s numbers to be similar or greater than 2014. Glenbow Ranch officially became a provincial park in 2008.
