Last weekend for Cochrane Charity Bottle Drive

Get some space back in your garage by taking your bottles and cans to a Bottle Drive on Saturday (April 18).

COCHRANE—A partnership created by a simple idea to do good within the community is in its final weekend.

With COVID-19 affecting many businesses throughout town, one of them being the Bottle Depot, Cochranites have been left with an abundance of bottles unsure of where to take them. This sparked an idea between Amped2Play operations coordinator Sandra Scott, Chris Heier of Half Hitch Brewing Company and Mark Eaton of The Corner Coworking.

The three landed on a solution that would help the community of Cochrane in more than one way. Over the past couple of weeks, the trio has been collecting bottles for the greater good — Cochrane's local charities.

These include the Helping Hands Society of Cochrane and Area, Cochrane Immigrant Services Committee, Cochrane and Area Hospice Society, Big Hill Haven Women's Shelter, Cochrane and Area Humane Society, Boys and Girls Club of Cochrane and Area, and Cochrane Family and Community Support Services.

In its first two weeks, the drive collected $1896.15 and filled a 40 ft truck two thirds full. The final goal set for Saturday (April 18) is to fill the remainder of the truck.

Cochranites are welcome to drop off any bottles at Half Hitch Brewing Company: 10 Griffin Industrial Point #1 or alternatively at The Corner Coworking: 225 Railway St. E on Saturday (April 18) between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A drive-thru method will be practiced to adhere to physical distance measures currently in place.

If you would like to drop off sooner or miss Saturday's date, the bins and trailer are being left out every day making drop-offs accessible. The bottle drive will remain in operation until Cochrane's Bottle Depot re-opens.
