One person can make a difference.

That’s the lesson Dawn-Marie Cinnamon is trying to teach as she prepared to shave her locks in support of the fight against cancer.

The Cochrane mother of two will sit in the hot seat May 25, from 6-9 p.m., at Frank Wills Hall, going under the razor, with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to Kids Cancer Care.

The charitable organization aims to support families who are fighting childhood cancer. The groups funding and programming goes into research, clinical support, camp and community initiatives, and scholarships.

“I just want to set an example for my kids… that one person can make a difference,” said Cinnamon, who works as a school bus driver and a teacher’s assistant. “A small act, such as shaving your head, can raise funds and awareness.”

Aside from being a role model for her two children, Cinnamon said she was inspired to shave her head in support of family members and loved ones she has lost to the disease.

On May 25, Cinnamon said she won’t just be losing her hair for herself, but also for her father-in-law, her best friend, a long-time family friend and her mother.

Cinnamon won’t be the only one emerging from the event with a new ‘do. Her 11-year-old daughter Zoe will be chopping off her hair, donating it to Angel Hair For Kids, a Child’s Voice Foundation program that provides wigs and hair loss solutions to disadvantaged Canadian children who have lost their hair due to a medical condition or treatment. This is Zoe’s second time donating her hair.

The event is slated to host a fundraising silent auction in addition to the hair makeovers. Cinnamon is currently on the search for local businesses willing to donate items for the cause — if interested, contact her directly.

Tickets for the event are $10 and will be sold in advance. To make a donation, purchase tickets or to learn more about the initiative, contact Dawn-Marie Cinnamon at 403-932-6068 or email dawn-mariecinnamon@ shaw.ca.
