The 22nd Annual Moose Mountain Trail Races invites runners, from beginners to professionals, to take part in this year’s event.

Tracy Sych with the race said that although the goal is to continue to provide an engaging local race experience, the effort to raise funds for the Greater Bragg Creek Trail Association’s trail maintenance remains the top priority.

Part of that effort involves participants minimizing their environmental impact, such as using locally sourced materials, asking participants to bring their own utensils, refillable water bottles and recycling waste where possible, Sych said.

Sych described the 16-km route as a challenging, circular, forest trail run starting at the West Bragg Creek parking lot.

The 29-km race represents an out-and-back course consisting of a series of short connector trails and eventually up Moose Mountain to turn around just below the fire watch station. The 42-km route utilizes the same start time and course, but with the added telephone loop to increase the difficulty.

“The 29 and 42 km runners benefit from all their hard work when they come through the clearing and up Moose Mountain; the 360-degree views are hard to beat.”

Runners can sport new race swag, such as local handcrafted belt buckles. The Top 3 male and female placers will receive a custom belt crafter by a local leather artisan.

Founded in Bragg Creek over two decades ago, Sych said the event is steep in homegrown tradition.

“This local aspect is what keeps people coming back; for first-timers the proximity to the location is a benefit for training and racing.”
