The Town of Cochrane, local RCMP, Canadian Pacific Police Service (CPPS) and other pertinent stakeholders are partnering to address recent incidents along the rail corridor in Cochrane.

Starting Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., CPPS officers will kick off this joint back-to-school rail safety campaign at the Cochrane Fall Fair. Officers will be on hand to answer questions from the public and to stress the importance of rail safety.

On Saturday, officers will be at the booth from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Throughout the fall, expect increased police presence around the rail corridor and a drive for more public education initiatives, including school presentations.

For more information on rail safety, residents are encouraged to follow the Rail Association of Canada’s rail safety advocacy group, Operation Lifesaver @OpLifesaver or operationlifesaver.ca.

Operation Lifesaver is a railway safety initiative aimed at educating the public on rail hazards. Founded in 1981, the organization gives over 500 presentations to schools, youth clubs and driver associations each year.
