Kendra Watt’s decision to change careers brought her to Cochrane nine years ago and she hasn’t looked back.
The former mortgage agent grew tired of sitting behind a desk and wanted to get out in the field and work directly with the people and homes she was helping to find financing.
Her decision brought her to Cochrane, where she said she moved explicitly to sell real estate.
She was drawn to the community because of its picturesque location nestled at the edge of the foothills, the small town feel and the hot real estate market.
“I moved to Cochrane not knowing a single person or selling a single home,” she said, adding she now has a few hundred sales under her belt. Her selling power earned her the Top Producer (fourth highest sales production northwest office) award for CIR realty in 2017.
She also is no longer unknown, saying she can’t walk into a grocery store without seeing people she knows, which she adds always results in some delightful conversations.
Her passion for real estate – which she describes as her calling – combined with her gregarious personality, hard work and strong community involvement has been the recipe for her success.
Watt said the challenge and creativity of the job, whether that is through negotiating for great deals or marketing to set herself apart from the “53,000 other realtors in the area,” means there is never a dull moment.
It also means she has to stay on her toes and she is always seeking new knowledge on her industry.
“I refer to myself as a real estate geek,” she said.
Giving back to the community is important to Watt who is heavily involved with the Cochrane and Area Humane Society, supporting the organization with fundraising, volunteering and fostering. She has also recently begun work with the Ronald McDonald House.
Her efforts also earned her CIR’s 2017 Benevolent Heart Award (Greatest contribution to the CIR Charity Program).
