Some of these thunderstorms may become severe, producing large hail, heavy winds and locally heavy rainfall, Environment Canada says.

Environment Canada has issued a thunderstorm watch alert for Cochrane and Rocky View County.

Thunderstorms are developing over the Alberta foothills and will move to the northeast through the afternoon and evening, Environment Canada warns.

Some of these thunderstorms may become severe, producing large hail, heavy winds and locally heavy rainfall.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.

These thunderstorms will weaken later this evening. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility. Strong wind gusts can damage trees, buildings and overturn vehicles. Large hail can cause significant damage and injury.

To report severe weather, Environment Canada recommends sending an email to [email protected], calling 1-800-239-0484 or posting reports on X using #ABStorm.
